In our increasingly mediated lives, where surrogate realities, proliferate
reproduction and global interconnectivity have subsumed primary experience,
the spectacle has turned us into a society of spectators. As our species'
original medium of communication, art is at once a vestigial manifestation
of the inherent correspondence between expression and experience and a
vital responder to the myriad ways in which observation has become the
social equivalent of personal participation. As much about art's role as a
corrective to this contemporary paradigm as it is about it's complicity in
our ongoing distraction, this exhibition is also a confrontation with the
perversity, prurience, passivity and disconnect we, as perpetual viewers,
all share. Some people like to do stuff; we like to watch.
